Ritedose Interns Volunteer for Food Distribution at State’s Largest Food Bank, Harvest Hope

COLUMBIA, S.C., July 12, 2024 – Eight interns from The Ritedose Corporation (Ritedose) volunteered at the Harvest Hope, South Carolina’s largest food distribution charity this month—packaging boxes of food for needy families on July 10. The humanitarian work was part of the Ritedose summer internship program, where student-employees volunteer for a day of community service.

Food insecurity is a significant problem in South Carolina. More than 20% of children in South Carolina live in “food insecure” homes. That means those households don’t have enough food for every family member to lead a healthy life. Harvest Hope provides 50,000 meals every week to alleviate hunger and food insecurity among South Carolinians.

“We are passionate about serving our community and encourage our team members—including interns—to give back,” said Ritedose CEO Jody Chastain.

The eight interns are temporarily working at Ritedose to learn about the contract drug development industry.

“Not only are the interns gaining valuable experience from their roles at Ritedose, they also are gaining first-hand knowledge of how members of a community can make a positive impact on their neighbors,” continued Chastain.

“At Harvest Hope, we wouldn’t be able to fulfill our mission of fighting hunger without the incredible support of our passionate intern volunteers like those from Ritedose” said CEO of Harvest Hope Erinn Rowe. “The impact goes beyond just filling plates. Volunteering at Harvest Hope gives individuals an opportunity to share their compassion and commitment to serving those in need. This spirit of collaboration is what truly cultivates a stronger, healthier community for all.”

“As a dedicated community partner, we are proud to support the mission of Harvest Hope and thrilled to provide that experience to our interns.” said Chief Human Resources Officer at Ritedose Janisha Thomas. “Their work and spirit are an inspiration to us all.”

About Harvest Hope

South Carolina’s largest food bank, Harvest Hope is on a mission to eradicate hunger in 20 South Carolina counties, one nutritious meal at a time. We act as a critical bridge, rescuing food nearing its expiration from stores and sourcing fresh produce directly from local farms and producers. This food is then distributed to a network of food pantries and feeding programs, ensuring it reaches the most vulnerable in our communities – the one in five children facing food insecurity, one in nine seniors on fixed incomes, and one in eight neighbors struggling with limited access to food. www.harvesthope.org
